FAQ: Beautycounter Consultant

FAQs: Becoming a Beautycounter Consultant

I put together this post around becoming a Beautycounter Consultant FAQ because now that I've been at this awhile and more and more people have being using the products and realizing how great they really are, I get the "I'm kinda sorta interested in joining Beautycounter as a Consultant but do you have to (fill in the blank)?"

So, here it goes…

What does it cost to become a Consultant?

There's a $50 consultant enrollment fee (or $21 if you're already a Band of Beauty member). It includes one year of your personal Beautycounter website and backend order system, tracking, dashboard and digital training materials. After 1 year, there's a $50 annual fee to renew your Consultant status in order keep access to the personal website and backend system.

Beautycounter also offers one-time only consultant Starter Sets when you sign up at a larger discount (35-44%). But those are not required - just optional. I did purchase the largest Starter Set when I joined and I'm so glad I did. I had only tried a handful of products before becoming a Consultant and that really helped me get familiar with everything quickly so I could best serve my clients and you grow my business (plus they're tax deductible!).

Do you get a discount as a Consultant?

Of course! Consultant's get a 25% discount on products. Alternatively, Band of Beauty members earn 10% product credit on every order. So if you're just in it for the discount, Band of Beauty might be the better option for you (Band of Beauty members also get free shipping on orders over $100). If you want to join just for the discount, that's okay too. To remain an active Consultant, you need to do $1200 in sales or purchases over a 6 month period. If not, your status changes back to Band of Beauty member so you can still earn perks.

How is Beautycounter not a pyramid scheme?

Pyramid schemes are illegal. The trademark of them being that the way to make money is recruiting other people, but there isn't actually any tangible products involved. Beyond bizarre (and gross), I know!

At Beautycounter, you do not have to recruit even one person to make money. I was making money by sharing some of my favorite products before I ever had a team of women to lead.

We are a direct retail business. We sell through multiple channels, which was a huge selling point for me. In addition to our website and app, Beautycounter now has various brick and mortar stores in SoHo, Abbott Kinney in LA, Denver & summers in Nantucket. Beautycounter has done partnerships with Target, Sephora, Goop, and Jcrew. And in fact, if you do choose to build a build with other people like I have, you have to hit certain sales goals yourself in order to earn money from your team's sales.

Is there a monthly sales quota?

Nope. You don’t have any sales requirements or quotas, and you don’t have to spend anything every month to get your commission check. With Beautycounter, you get paid on every dollar you sell.

How do I make money as a consultant?

You can run an online Beautycounter business, you can run your business offline (in person doing events, word of mouth, one-on-one, etc.) – or a combination of both (what I do). What I like about Beautycounter is that the shopping experience on the website/app for clients is just like any other online retailer. Plus, clients can still "shop with" their consultant at the retail locations in Los Angeles, Denver and NYC.

Commissions on every product you sell are are between 25-35% (the 10% difference is a bonus as your volume increases) so your own sales could comprise the entirety of your commission check. If you decide to build a team too, you can earn on your management efforts as well. This chart is also helpful and gives an idea of what current Consultants are making. I'm currently an Executive Director for reference.

Are there autoship or minimum purchases required?

Nope. There is no purchase requirement for clients or consultants. Our client loyalty program, called Band of Beauty, which frequent shoppers can join for a yearly $29 fee – with a free item as a signup gift – gives them 10% back from all purchases as product credit (example: spend $100, get a $10 product credit for your next purchase) and free shipping on orders over $100.

What kind of training does Beautycounter provide?

I am on an amazing team IMHO and that really does make all the difference. Having support and resources at your finger tips (literally, we text all the time) makes the learning process so fun.

Beautycounter HQ also has a thorough online 'university' with tons of training modules and resources to help you get your business up and running. You definitely don't need to be an expert on anything skincare or makeup related to join us - I certainly wasn't when I started! Some people even join before they've ever tried the products because they are so inspired by the mission & advocacy work we get to do.

What else can you do with Beautycounter?

You can affect real change in your community, at the local, state and federal level. I've had the opportunity to meet with my congressman's office on behalf of Beautycounter to advocate for more health protective laws in the personal care industry. You can be a part of something bigger than selling incredible products and networking with amazing people. The community is so much more than I ever expected and I've met some of my best friends through this business.

What’s your favorite part of the mission?

Our mission is to get safer products into the hands of everyone. I know not everyone can use 100% Beautycounter products 100% of the time. So for me, it all comes down to educating others on what's really important and what to look out for. How products are made, the supply chain, transparency, and more importantly, what they are not made with can make a big difference in someone's life - especially for those in childbearing stages!!!

There are no parabens, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, hormone disrupting chemicals or known carcinogens in Beautycounter’s products! The Never List and Beautycounter’s commitment to it goes right along with my health and wellness goals - making skin and body care products as much a focus and priority as food is.

Ok, sign me up! How, though?

To become a Consultant, go to my Beautycounter website and 'Join Now'! Just make sure I’m listed as your mentor if you want to work with me directly.  If you have questions about which (if any) Starter Set would be best for you, contact me!. From there, I'll help you get everything else setup. It's quick, easy and probably most importantly, really fun.

Where can I learn more about the company?

There are tons of recent articles linked here and on the website too. This blog includes some of my beauty faves here.
